This concept of rent seeking at all costs is absurdly destructive on a society in general. While usury is the more well known evil (even being mentioned in most religious books in history as such). The concept of always seeking profit while producing nothing or even destroying things will ultimately be the death nail in Western Societies. An example we like citing is Sears/Kmart in the US. They still exist, just not as retail stores. The owner, Eddie Lambert, basically gutted everything he can out of them. While still owning the land the stores used to sit on (which he now rents out) mixed with owning the IP licenses for products like Kenmore that are now produced by others. They produce nothing but still make profits by fleecing others after fleecing everything from these two brand giants. Liberals here in the United States for example love doing this weird cognitive dissidence cope if you've ever seen it. Instead of outright admitting that they're doing X to secure power/policy they want. They do this weird cope where they're trying to thread a needle between Liberal Ideals and Reality itself. We've seen this in courtrooms for example. Instead of saying "We want Bill in prison because he represents a threat to the ruling system's goals and power". They instead do this cope with "We're not charging you for your views but because you broke this obscure law from 1811 that no one has ever heard of before and has never been enforced! We care deeply about your right to oppose us though!". It's because if they admit their principles don't work in reality, their whole system is a sham.
