Christians are being spat on in Jerusalem. That is true. The people doing it are overwhelmingly drawn from small, identifiable religious communities. That is also true. And much of what Americans are now being told about WHY it is happening is false. A thread. 🧵 --- Earlier this month, Israeli teenagers knocked on the door of the Armenian Apostolic Church headquarters in Jerusalem. They asked if Christians were inside. They wanted to spit on them. Some reportedly called it a mitzvah, a religious duty. This is not invented. It is happening. --- And the people documenting it are not anti-Israel activists. The Religious Freedom Data Center was founded and is directed by Yisca Harani, a Jewish Israeli scholar of Christianity. Jewish Israeli volunteers document attacks, accompany victims and provide protection at Christian sites. --- There were 107 documented incidents in 2024. 181 in 2025. By early June 2026, more than 88 had already been logged. Spitting. Verbal abuse. Vandalism. Desecration. Stone throwing. Arson. So who is doing it? --- Most documented incidents involve Haredi youths and men, with one small Lithuanian Haredi community in Jerusalem appearing repeatedly in reporting. But not all. Some offenders have come from the Religious Zionist world. That distinction matters. This is not "the Jews" doing it, and there are not a large number of incidents. --- There is another uncomfortable fact. Ben Gvir is now Israel's Minister of National Security and he defended spitting at Christian monks and churches years ago, calling it an ancient Jewish tradition and questioning why it should be treated as criminal. The police answer to him. --- In 2023, after five people were arrested for spitting at Christians and churches, Ben Gvir again said the behavior was not criminal. His own Jerusalem police district publicly contradicted him. That gets very close to the heart of the problem. --- This is not evidence that Israel is a state hostile to Christianity. Israel has about 184,000 Christians. Its Christian population has grown enormously since 1948. Across much of the surrounding Middle East, Christian communities have collapsed. Israel is the regional exception. --- Which brings me to Tucker Carlson. Carlson has spent two years building a case that Christians are being persecuted by Israel. Some of the facts he cites are real. Palestinian Christians face real hardships. Israeli Christians have experienced real harassment. Israel's visa bureaucracy has mistreated Christian organizations. --- The problem is what Carlson does with those facts. He repeatedly blurs Palestinian Christians in the West Bank with Christian citizens of Israel. They live under fundamentally different legal and political circumstances. And that changes the argument. --- If a Palestinian Christian faces the same checkpoints, permits and restrictions as his Muslim neighbor, that may be an argument about Israeli occupation. It is NOT evidence that Israel is persecuting him because he is Christian. Those are two different claims. Carlson merges them. --- Then Carlson crossed into something else. In April, while attacking the IHRA definition of antisemitism, he objected to describing the claim that Jews killed Jesus as classic antisemitism. "So there goes the New Testament," he said. "The whole New Testament is antisemitic too." --- This is the deicide charge. Not the historical claim that particular Jewish authorities participated in the events leading to the crucifixion. The deicide charge assigns responsibility to Jews collectively, as a people, for killing Christ. It has followed Jews for centuries. --- None of this excuses what is happening in Jerusalem. Christians are being spat on. Church property has been vandalized. Israeli authorities have failed to enforce the law consistently. And the minister responsible for the police has publicly minimized the offense. Israel needs to fix this. --- But American Christians should be very careful about being told that "the Jews" hate them. Because one of the facts missing from that narrative is extraordinary. The most extensive documentation of these attacks is being done by Jews. Jewish Israelis protecting Christians from other Jews. And the number of these incidents is actually very small. All things can be true. --- Israel has a real anti-Christian harassment problem among a small religious fringe, and its government has handled it badly. And that problem is being inflated into a sweeping indictment of Israel and increasingly of Jews themselves. The evidence supports the first. It does not support the second. --- I went through the incident reports, the arrests, the Israeli organizations documenting them, the politics behind the failure to prosecute, Ben Gvir's history, Huckabee's private warnings, and Tucker Carlson's claims. Senator Rand Paul is planning on calling for a vote to hold Fauci in contempt of congress! If it passes, then it may be possible for the President of the Senate to directly refer it to the Justice Department. --- Senator Rand Paul wants to ask his committee to vote to hold Dr. Fauci in contempt of Congress. If the committee approved the resolution, there are two potential paths for referring the matter to the Department of Justice. The first, and by far the most common, is for the full Senate to adopt the contempt resolution before it is certified for prosecution. The second is through the President of the Senate, a statutory referral mechanism that exists in law but has been used only rarely in modern practice. Because of its infrequent use, there is relatively little precedent for how such a referral would be handled. This is the path that Senator Paul wishes to use. 📌Follow and Share👇🏻 🔬🧬 @RWMaloneMD
